Gearing Up

By Stuart Broz - Posted on 26 January 2010

One week from today, on February 2nd (Groundhog Day), Kitchenhacker will be one year old. I have a lot of plans for the new year. One of the first will be a website makeover that has been keeping me occupied. It isn't a huge thing, but I think it will be a bit easier on the eyes than what the site looks like now. Hopefully, it will be easier to navigate, too.

I could use a bit of help from all of you, though. I've been considering a new tag-line. clever cooking. creative food. - it isn't bad, but I've gotten some feedback from people who say it caused them to assume this is a recipe site. While crimfan posts some recipes, I do so rarely. If people come here looking for recipes, I think they'll be disappointed.

...and I do so hate to disappoint people.

So I turn to you, faithful readers. Do I need a new tagline? What should it be?

The tagline is something I've been struggling with... yeah, it is only a few words, but it helps form people's expectations.

Perhaps I'll keep it and address those issues another way.

Stuart, I like your current tagline - I think it's perfect for your kitchen philosophy. So, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas for a new one. I'm hoping you'll keep it - it is very catchy and memorable.

I looked up "nontraditional" in the thesaurus and got some good words... maybe they'll provide you with some inspiration:

apostate, backsliding, disloyal, dissident, heterodox, mutinous, outlaw, radical, renegade, reactionary, rebel, recreant, revolutionary, runaway, schismatic, traitorous, unfaithful, untraditional, avant-garde, esoteric, exotic, experimental, far-out, nonconformist, odd, offbeat, peculiar, quirky, strange, untraditional, unusual

I like your tag line.
If you must change it to divest yourself from recipes, how about:
Clever cooking, creative tips.
Clever tips, creative ideas.
Tips, tricks, and trials.
Circumventing the traditional.
Cooking hobbyist.
Nontraditional advice.

So why don't you post them? Mine are pretty loose but I try to give an idea of what I'm doing or thinking about through them. Sometimes a comment improves them.

...but I don't want this to be a recipe site. Does that mean I shouldn't post the occasional recipe? No. It means I trained myself into the habit of avoiding them.

Recipes are like the concrete examples in a class.
